Welcome to 2025! I have a big year planned, including some shows, a few workshops and a lot more painting! I’ll keep you in the loop as those events get closer. Meanwhile, let’s jump in to this month’s update!
New work alert!
While some people (including me, sometimes) slow down toward the end of year, I just kept creating new art. Why? Because I love it!
Here are three new pieces I finished recently, with a little insight into each. All of them are available as originals or prints on my website.
For Me? | Oil on Canvas | 11 x 14
Magpies and Bighorn Sheep might seem like unlikely companions, but you’d be surprised how often you see them together! The magpies stand on the sheep’s backs or hover closely nearby, waiting patiently for seeds to fall from the endless helpings of grass the sheep eat. And the sheep? Well, they don’t seem to mind at all.
Little Lamb | Oil on Board | 14 x 18
I see a lot of Bighorn Sheep rams and they’re very impressive. But what I really like are the lambs, patiently following their mothers and gazing curiously at me as I pass by. If they could talk, I imagine they’d say something like this:
Look at those big rams, butting heads and showing off for the ewes. They’re huge! Doesn’t it hurt them when they hit each other like that? Aren’t their brains like scrambled eggs by the end of the day? I don’t know, maybe one day I’ll be just like them, but I hope it isn’t soon. I don’t need that kind of headache....
Rescue Ram | Oil on Canvas | 11 x 14
This one was a lot of fun for me! There are no St. Bernards carrying flasks of brandy where I live, but I wondered whether Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep rams might fill in for them?
The story I imagined went like this (with apologies to Hunter S. Thompson):
We were somewhere around Radium Hot Springs, in the Columbia Valley, when the sun began to angle toward the horizon and the temperature started to drop. I remember saying something like “I feel a bit thirsty, maybe we should head in,” when suddenly, a Bighorn Sheep burst from the undergrowth, a six-pack strapped to his chest...
(If you’re wondering, the cans of beer shown in the painting are from Radium Brewing, the small but great brewery in Radium Hot Springs that is currently home to several of my paintings, including this one.)
Here's how you can see what my art looks like on your walls
One of the biggest concerns people have when buying art — particularly online — is that they’re not sure how it will look in their living room, kitchen, office, bedroom or any other space.
Technology to the rescue! When you visit my website you’ll find that most of my pieces include photos that show what they look like in one or more locations.
For originals I show what the painting would look like at full size. For prints I include a variety of images showing what my painting would look like as a cavas print or a framed image printed on matte fine art paper.
Check it out — see if any of my originals or prints are right for your space. And let me know if there are other rooms you'd like to see my art in — even your room!
Thank you for reading my update newsletter! Get in touch if you have questions, feedback or want to talk.
