I don’t know about you, but when the weather gets as hot as it has been lately, I get a little uncomfortable. I like to stay inside, sip something cool and read something interesting…like this month’s update! I hope you do too!

In this update:

  • Getting out in nature inspires me

  • I'm in two art shows — and you're invited!

Getting out in nature inspires me

Last month, my husband and I took a short road trip to the West Kootenay region of British Columbia. We took our trailer and camped in Slocan, B.C.

We did a lot of fun things while we were in Slocan. My favourite was an overnight canoe trip up the lake.

Yes, you read that right — an overnight canoe trip. We loaded the canoe, paddled up the lake, set up our tent and stayed the night. There were no other people there and it was wonderful. Slocan Lake is a gem — so clear, so beautiful…and most of the time pretty calm. (Just check out the photo above to see how calm the lake can be!)

Back in Slocan, we spent a full day riding our bikes on the Slocan Valley Rail Trail. Another great way to get close to nature! Of course we also took time to hang out at the Bliss Cafe coffee shop and later, at the Slocan City Hotel's Lobby Grill.

Will travelling to Slocan inspire me to create any new paintings? You bet it will. Stay tuned and you’ll see them!

I'm in two shows — and you're invited!

You might see a scene like this if you come to my show at Celista Estate Winery on July 19!

I have two art shows coming up in the next few weeks. Here are all the details for your calendars:

July 19 — North Shuswap Fine Arts Show, Celista BC

In mid-July I’ll be one of 17 artists taking part in the North Shuswap Fine Arts Show at the beautiful Celista Estate Winery.

If you come, you’ll be able to sip wine on the patio (it’s yummy, trust me!), eat at a food truck, browse through artwork created by Shuswap artists and listen to music performed by a vioinist and a saxophonist. Who doesn’t like a little sax and violins?

I’ll have a tent set up at the show and will be featuring art that I have created while staying at Timid Turtle Pond.

The show runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and admission is free.

July 31 - August 30 — Pynelogs Cultural Centre, Invermere BC

I’m proud to be one of two artists featured in a month-long show with Columbia Valley Arts at the Pynelogs Cultural Centre in Invermere.

My half of the show will feature paintings from my Wild Essence and Little Birds series. The Pynelogs Cultural Centre is a wonderful location, right by the beach on Windermere Lake, and I think my art will look fantastic on the gallery walls.

If you’re in the Invermere area, be sure to stop by and take in the show. Better yet, come out for the opening at Pynelogs, on Saturday, August 2. I’d love to see you there!
