Happy Spring! It’s finally April, one of my favourite months. There are other months I like as well, but April is definitely in my top 12. So what’s going on in my world? Let’s jump in and find out!
In this update:
Why do I like to learn and teach art so much?
A new place to buy my art
New work from me: Unstoppable
Why do I like to learn and teach art so much?
In the last two years I have taken several art workshops and even a year-long course. And in that same period I led several workshops, teaching art to others.
Why do I like to learn — and teach — art so much?
On the learning side it’s because I never want to stop getting better at what I do. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut, creating the same thing over and over just because it’s popular or easy. That’s not me. I have a restless creative spirit. Attending workshops injects me with new ideas, new techniques and fires up my enthusiasm to create new art.
Teaching, on the other hand, is all about passing along what I’ve learned over the years and helping others bring their creative aspirations to life. Yes, it’s a lot of work to plan, promote and host a workshop. But it is so fulfilling! I love seeing people getting excited as they create something they in some cases never thought they could. And if it doesn’t go well at first, I love working with them and infusing them with a can-do spirit.
In early March I held a two-day workshop at the Pynelogs Cultural Centre in Invermere. We worked on incorporating little treasures into abstract paintings. It was so much fun! The women I worked with were enthusiastic and created some beautiful works of art.
Then, in late March, I had the opportunity to hold an impromptu multi-day art workshop with three special people: my granddaughters! They are so creative. I wish everyone had such a spirit of just jumping in and creating without worry about what is “right” and what looks good.
I have another workshop coming up in late April at Pynelogs. This time we’ll be capturing the wild spirit of an animal on canvas in bold, beautiful colours.
Are you interested in taking a workshop with me? Let me know! I might schedule one in your neighbourhood!

A new place to see and buy my art
In March I began selling my art in a new location: Funky Junk Stained Glass & More in Radium Hot Springs. Funky Junk carries art by a wide range of artists in a variety of mediums and now I’m one of them!
I have several works in the store and so far, sales are going well.
If you’re in the area, drop by Funky Junk at 7517 Main Street West, Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia.

New work from me: Unstoppable
In March I unveiled one of my most recent works, Unstoppable. Unstoppable is a 24 x 24 inch oil painting on canvas. It features my signature combination of abstract elements and bright, colourful animals. In this case a rather fierce grizzly bear.
To me, Unstoppable represents the spirit of indomitable will. It’s about drive, enthusiasm and passion. Seeing the prize and stopping at nothing until we get it.
What do you see when you look at Unstoppable?
If you’re in Radium Hot Springs you can visit Unstoppable at Radium Brewing. And of course the original and prints are available on my website at www.dianaskelhorne.com.
