The Legend of Percy The Peacock
For many years, locals and visitors to the small mountain village of Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia were thrilled to see a beautiful male peacock named Percy strutting through the village streets. The area's famous Bighorn Sheep were impressive, but Percy’s plumage was even more photogenic. For a time, he even had his own Instagram account!
I first saw Percy in 2021, when I was new to the village. Just like me, Percy was waiting patiently outside the door to Radium Brewing. I’m not sure what kind of beer Percy liked, but I’m certain it wasn’t pale ale — there was nothing pale about Percy!
Last I heard, Percy now lives on an acreage in the Columbia Valley where he is safe from passing vehicles and predators. I miss seeing him on our streets, but I’m happy I can visit him through my painting and photos. I hope you enjoy seeing him too!
