Autumn is ram season in the Columbia Valley!

Saturday and Sunday
October 24-25, 2026

11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Pynelogs Cultural Centre, Invermere

In the autumn, Rocky Mountain Bighorn rams take centre stage in the Columbia Valley, putting on their show of butting heads and competing for mating rights.

You can capture all of the energy and spirit of the rams in this two-day, weekend art workshop with local artist Diana Skelhorne.

In the workshop, you will paint a ram on canvas, using both acrylic and oil paint. You will learn how to transfer your reference image to the canvas, create an underpainting using acrylic paint and finish and enhance the painting using oil paint. You’ll also learn about colour harmony, composition and so much more. Diana will guide you through each step, making sure you finish the weekend with a painting you will be proud to hang or present as a gift.

(Never used oil paint before? Don’t worry! Diana will show you how using oil paint is easier than you think and how it can make a big difference to the final work. You’ll wonder why you never used oil paint before!)

Canvases, acrylic paint and miscellaneous supplies are included in the cost of registration. Students will need to bring brushes and a few oil paint colours. A supply list will be provided.

Skill level: Advanced beginner to intermediate

Location: Pynelogs Cultural Centre, Invermere, B.C.
